West Midlands Recreation Rowing League
Our third outing of the season was to Bridgnorth, where we took part in 250m round robin races, within the context of a full British Rowing regatta. This was good experience for those who have not attended a regatta before. Bridgnorth is such a lovely place too. The conditions weren't so lovely - it was very windy, the river was flowing fast and big queues of boats built up. Many ended up in the bank and there were several capsizes. Staying in station and starting was difficult too, so difficult that most of the recreational races only started when the umpire ran down the bank to keep up with boats being swept down the river. Staying calm in such circumstances was critical and our crew did really well. They were Pamela, Kate, Martin, Laura and Bev (cox). We won both our races comfortably, with the crew calm, controlled and powerful despite the complex conditions. We are very pleased with ourselves for getting maximum points to add to our existing tally. We are now third in the league at half way stage in the season.
