Learn to row
Our comprehensive six-week course takes you from complete beginner to confident crew member, teaching you the fundamentals of rowing in a supportive environment.
Intermediate development
For those who've mastered the basics, this squad focuses on refining technique, building fitness, and preparing you for recreational or competitive progression.
Competitive spirit
Challenge yourself with our Men's, Women's, and Mixed competition squads, aiming for success at local, national, and even international regattas and head races.
Recreational Rowing
Not everybody wants to race and one of the most active parts of the Club is Recreational Rowing. Here a couple of crews are on their way to a lovely Pub Lunch in Tewkesbury. Discover the beauty of the River Severn and River Avon with our recreational rowing events. Organised by our dedicated Recreational Rowing Committee, these tours range from short, scenic trips to multi-day explorations both within the UK and further afield. Many longer tours are also organised by British Rowing, offering fantastic opportunities to explore new waterways and build lasting friendships.
Explore your rowing potential
From a gentle paddle down the river on a sunny day to the thrill of international competitive racing, Upton Rowing Club offers a multitude of rowing paths. We hope this page inspires you to pursue your passion.
Beginner & intermediate pathways
Our 'Learn to Row' course is perfect for complete novices, providing six weeks of expert instruction to get you rowing confidently in a crew. This naturally progresses to our 'Intermediate Squad,' where rowers further develop their skills, aiming for confident recreational rowing or preparing for more competitive challenges. Expect focused coaching, camaraderie, and a steady improvement in your technique and fitness.
Competitive & recreational options
The Men's, Women's, and Mixed competition squads are for those with a drive to compete, from local regattas and head races to national and international stages. While dedication is key, prior expertise isn't always essential—just the will to push boundaries. Beyond competition, many members, including those in competitive squads, cherish the joy of 'Recreational Rowing,' enjoying social paddles and even rowing tours both in the UK and overseas. There's a path for every ambition and every pace.
