Boat Naming Ceremony
On Sunday 23rd December we named six boats including three sponsored Club boats. Two other boats were renamed in honour of the late Gabby Tolkien and his wife Kay as well as private boat belonging to one of our members. The Sponsored boats included a fully-funded, stabilized single hulled sculling boat which has already proved popular in the Club and this named after Robin Rayner who used to row at one of the Cambridge Colleges in his youth - his son John now rows with us.
Two new C4 recreational boats were also named. They were substantially funded by dcms, Sport England and the ARA. Additional sponsorship (signage) came from the Malvern based company InfoSigns. These two boats support our drive into 'Recreational Rowing' which has been spear-headed by our Vice-Captain (Recreational Rowing), Peter Barker with one of the boats being named after him. The other was named 'Upton Flyer' a name produced by a local member of the public via a competition to 'Name that Boat'. Recreational Rowing is longer rowing outings at lower power and plans are afoot to manage regular tours locally and elsewhere. | ||
