Welcome to Upton Rowing Club

Boat Naming Ceremony

On Sunday 23rd December we named six boats including three sponsored Club boats. Two other boats were renamed in honour of the late Gabby Tolkien and his wife Kay as well as private boat belonging to one of our members. The Sponsored boats included a fully-funded, stabilized single hulled sculling boat which has already proved popular in the Club and this named after Robin Rayner who used to row at one of the Cambridge Colleges in his youth, his son John now rows with us

Club Mini Head

On a balmy Sunday morning in October, enthusiastic rowers met at the boathouse for this month's mini-head (total distance approx. 7km or just over 4 miles in old money). As each crew made their way past the start line at the King's Head, adjudicator, John Dean clung desperately to his score sheets having just rescued them from a breeze that had deposited them at the water's edge. And with Pat Cox on hand to make sure John didn't accidentally press the wrong button on the stop watch, the race was on.
